Background
Wee Targets are plastic targets that you stick to the inside of the toilet to give little boys (and not so little boys!) something to aim for. To make it really fun, the targets have heat sensitive black ink spots on them and when wee hits the target, the black ink ‘disappears’ to reveal a picture underneath. The targets go back to black once the toilet is flushed, ready for the next time.
Jo and Dan Hames are the parents of three young boys. One night, having scrubbed the bathroom clean yet again after her boys had missed the bowl, Jo thought ‘there has to be a better way’ and so she invented the Wee Target. An inspired invention! She and her husband, Dan, appeared on The New Inventors show on the ABC in 2007 and were the People’s Choice Episode Winner with over 68% of the votes. We saw the show and contacted them immediately after!
Publicity Campaign
Jo and Dan had only been on the show two weeks prior to our contacting them. They were selling the product off their website and spending their nights packing the product and posting them to customers.
After we met them, we introduced them to contacts we had for distribution and manufacturing as well as creating a publicity campaign for them. The media loved the product (who wouldn’t!) and they got some brilliant coverage including an interview on ABC radio, and stories in women’s and parenting magazines.
